After my first watercolours class, I was hooked!!  I was googling watercolours, looking them up on pinterest and trying to find a style that I personally connected with.   No offense intended but painting eggs in an egg cup does not do a thing for me.  Happy to try it once.  I was fiddling around on Instagram, which I now lovingly call INSTA when I discovered something I had never noticed before.  If you type in the search bar, a whole load of pictures comes up below it.  I was IN!!  Watercolours to my hearts desire.  Its kinda funny that I had been using half of Instagram for quite some time now!  One of the pictures captured my attention and when I clicked on it, it took me to the website of Black Chalk Collective.   I loved the fresh look of the website and the information was really clear.  I clicked on online courses and they had a FREE four week course called Palletiquette which I was immediately drawn to.  This course went into the basics of colour in such a fun way, this was the information missing from my watercolour knowledge.  I DEVOURED all of the knowledge, it was like I was starving and very eager to know all I could.  I instantly clicked with Emma Witte’s style and will be very keen to enrol in her courses again in the future.  Something on Emma’s page that gripped my heart was BRUSH LETTERING.  Yes an online course for Brush Lettering.  Oh my gosh, I’ve gone from having everyone tell me that I need to get a hobby to taking on THREE hobbies within a week.  I need a SPONSOR stat!  Mind you, I am yet to actually produce a piece of art worthy of all this effort.

So, Brush Lettering.  I did what every sensible girl should do an installed the Officeworks app on my iPhone.  At 4am.  Boy, those great quality brush pens add up and chuck in the Micador watercolour palette – just because it looks pretty. DELETE DELETE no I can not do this at four in the morning.   So the next day, I decide I’m going to rock up to Officeworks in person this time and inspect these Brush Lettering pens that I NEED.  I took my daughter along and before a second had passed, we’re both in an Officeworks high!  My daughter is flinging things at me, because Mummy we just need a jumbo pencil case with Flamingo’s all over it and hell yes, we do need to buy you your first Copic Brush Lettering Pen.  We had a LOT of fun and it was very expensive.  My husband is pretty laid back when it comes to purchases but maybe I thought, maybe its a good idea this time if he didn’t see the Brush Lettering Pens with the Officeworks receipt all at the same time.   Oops!!  Busted.  My daughters flung him the bag before I could blink.  Never mind.  My life is complete now I own six Tombow Brush Lettering Pens.  I’m going to add it to my lifetime achievements immediately!  Tam xx

Hey! I am a passionate advocate for those with depression following my own journey with severe depression. I still have depression however I have found a way with professional help and sheer determination, to reach out to others and to stay connected to life and my local community. I LOVE music, art: watercolour and brush lettering and live to help others. I'm very into self-development and love activities that focus on the beauty in life and simple things.
