You may be quite unsure of what to expect at your first appointment with a Psychologist, Social Worker or Hypnotherapist. My experience is limited to attending a Psychologist, Social Worker and a Psychiatrist. What I have to say is it is similar to attending an appointment with your general practitioner, especially when they ask “What has brought you here today?”.
You can expect to sit on a couch or a chair positioned in the room where you feel most comfortable.
They will listen to you with their full attention and may ask you a series of questions, or may ask you to fill in a Mental health questionnaire to monitor your Mental health in the future and at the present time.
You may cry a lot at your first appointment, out of sheer relief that you are meeting with a helping professional, because you are in distress or you may not cry.
